Tigers fall in SEC Tournament to rival Tide

The 10 seed Auburn Tigers fell 6-3 to their bitter rivals the 7 seed Alabama Crimson Tide in the first round of the SEC Tournament Tuesday, May 21 at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

Alabama scored one run in the first inning to take an early lead, but Auburn took command by scoring three runs in the top of the third as Patrick Savage had an RBI double down the left field line to put runners at second and third with one out. A sacrifice fly and a single later Auburn was in the lead by two runs.

Alabama answered in the fourth by adding a run. They tacked on another in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at three.

The game was a stalemate for two innings until the bottom of the eighth when the Tiger pitching collapsed and allowed the Tide to score three runs on a single, a double and a wild pitch.

With the loss Auburn was eliminated from the SEC Tournament and their prospects for the NCAA Tournament dwindled significantly.
