The Auburn softball team continued its winning ways Thursday, February 26, picking up its 18th win of the season over visiting Texas State.

The Tigers (18-1) got off to bit of slower start than normal, not plating their first runs till the third inning, when they put up two, one by way of a wild pitch and one off a sacrifice fly from shortstop Haley Fagan.

Texas state answered back in the fifth, tying things up with a 2-run homer. But Auburn answered right back with a homer of their own, a solo shot from third baseman Kasey Cooper, and would keep the lead from there, adding three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Coach Clint Myers said while it wasn’t the dominating style of win this year’s team has become accustomed to, it’s still good to get a victory.

“Good teams figure out ways to win,” Myers said. “If you can keep adding to the lead, it makes a little bit of a statement that our offense is good all the way through. Did I think we swung the bats really well? No. But we figured out ways to score runs. Good teams find ways to win, and we did that tonight.”

This weekend, the Tigers will play host to the Wilson/Demarini classic, which Myers said will bring some quality competition to the Plains.

“I think you’re going to see games like this all weekend long,” Myers said. “We’ve got to be able to go out and perform better.”

In the first game of the weekend, the Tigers will take on Ohio State at 5 p.m. Friday, February 27. On Saturday, February 28, Auburn will play Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 5 p.m., then will finish out the weekend with a matchup with Samford at 1:30 p.m.
