Auburn gymnastics increases overall Regional Qualifying Score in loss to Kentucky

Ninth-ranked Auburn fell 196.575-196.325 to the Kentucky Wildcats Friday, March 6 at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Kentucky.

Caitlin Atkinson led the way for the Tigers as she claimed the event titles on vault, bars and floor. The junior also earned her sixth straight all-around with a score of 39.575.

Auburn’s score of 196.325 will increase its overall Regional Qualifying Score.

To start the meet, the Tigers scored a team total of 48.975 on bars. Atkinson was on top with a score of 9.850, followed by senior Megan Walker (9.825) and freshman Abby Milliet (9.800).

After strong landings from both, Atkinson and redshirt junior Lexus Demers shared the vault title with scores of 9.900 to lead the Wildcats 98.250-98.150 at the halfway point.

Atkinson earned her second title in bars with a score of 9.850.

Auburn finished floor with its second-highest score of the season at 49.375 led by another strong performance from Atkinson, who earned a 9.950 to lead the event.

The Tigers will face No. 6 Alabama Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m. in Birmingham in the Elevate The Stage Gymnastics Meet at Legacy Arena.
