Forward/center Matthew Atewe has told Auburn coaches he plans to transfer to another school according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.
Atewe missed last season after re-injuring his left leg in an exhibition, which underwent surgery during the offseason.
He played 24 games as a freshman in 2013-14 and averaged 1.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He was expected to take on bigger minutes this season, but an injury in a preseason exhibition ended his season before it started.
Efforts to confirm the report have not been returned by Auburn University officials.
Atewe’s transfer further thins a frontcourt that was short on bodies for much of last season.
