Auburn finished eighth after the first day of the 2015 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Iowa City, Iowa, Thursday, March 26.
The Tigers finished the first day of finals with 67 points after scoring performances in two relays and a big finish from Kyle Darmody in the 50 freestyle.
Arthur Mendes, Jacob Molacek, Michael Duderstadt and Darmody clocked in at 1:16.04 to take third overall in the 200 freestyle relay, and Auburn picked up a fifth-place finish in the 400 medley relay as Joe Patching, Duderstadt, Hugo Morris and Darmody touched in at 3:05.38.
Darmody placed 10th overall in the 50 freestyle race. The sophomore touched in at 19.33, his highest finish in the event at the finals in his career.
The second day of competition will start on Friday at 11 a.m. with preliminaries.
