Baseball gets series win in Columbia, SC

The baseball team beat SEC opponent South Carolina 3-0 Sunday, May 3, in the final game of a three-game series. The Tigers lost the first game 10-1, but were able to battle back in the second game that ended 6-2.

Junior right-handed pitcher Dalton Rentz got the start and went 4.2 innings while giving up no runs and only two hits. However, in the fifth inning, the Tigers switched to redshirt junior Justin Camp who threw for 3.1 innings.

Camp would be awarded the win, while junior Trey Wingenter would get the save coming in with one inning left.

The game stayed even at 0-0 through the first four innings, but in the fifth, sophomore catcher Blake Logan scored off of a sacrifice fly ball from fellow sophomore Damon Haecker.

Sophomore Anfernee Grier and Daniel Robert scored in the sixth inning following a double to center field by redshirt sophomore Kyler Deese.

This latest win for the Tigers takes their season record to 32-17, with a conference record of 12-12.

Auburn’s next game is scheduled for May 8, against rival Alabama at Plainsman Park at 6 p.m.

The series against the Crimson Tide is the Tigers second to last series before starting the SEC tournament on May 19.
