Baylor ends season for women’s doubles pair

Auburn doubles partners Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger fell 6-1, 6-2 to Baylor in the opening round of the NCAA Championships Thursday, May 21.

“Pleun and Emily both had great seasons,” Auburn coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “I’m so proud of both of them and all they accomplished this year. They will go down as one of the best doubles pairs in school history and the only back-to-back doubles All-Americans Auburn has ever had. I’m really proud of Emily and all her accomplishments over her four-year career both on the court and as a student.”

The No. 8 pair finished the year with a 24-11 overall record, including a 13-8 finish in dual matches. Flickinger finished her career as the program’s all-time leader in doubles victories with 94, while Burgmans’ 27 doubles wins in 2015 ranked as the third-most in Auburn single-season history.

The pair earned its second straight All-America recognition after being selected as a national No. 5-8 seed for the NCAA Championships.
