Citizens discuss Auburn High parking issues

Some problems with Auburn High School parking will have to wait to be addressed until after summer.

The Auburn City Council voted Tuesday, May 19, it will not request the Attorney General’s opinion on residents only parking on public streets.

City Council decided to find a solution to the problem over the summer.

There has been a problem with Auburn High students parking on roads in neighborhoods near the school, and in November it was decided there would be no parking on the streets from 7:30-10 a.m.

Patrick Manning lives on a street that is affected by the rule. His family has 8 cars, and he is not able to keep all of the cars in his driveway. This has resulted in his family being issued tickets.

“It’s an everyday problem for us,” Manning said.

While this action has helped many homeowners, citizens who have many cars and have to park on the street have been adversely affected by this ruling.

Other items discussed at the City Council meeting:

  • The Gay Street parking lot was approved to be closed June 12 for Summer Nights Art Walk.
  • The purchase of pedestrian lighting poles and fixtures was approved for the Mitcham Avenue Streetscape Project.
