Police warn travelers to ‘Click it or Ticket’ this holiday weekend

While many people may be hitting the road this weekend for Memorial Day, police are encouraging those using the roads to buckle up.

Click it or Ticket is a nationwide campaign to encourage travelers to wear their seatbelts while in the car.

According to a press release issued by the Auburn Police Division, there are many misconceptions about seatbelts, many people are not aware of how important and lifesaving seatbelts can be.

During the campaign, there will be extra officers in the city limits of Auburn checking that people are buckled up, according to Sgt. Jameson Presley of APD.

The goal of Click it or Ticket is to keep people alive, according to Presley.

The campaign started Monday, May 18 and will end Sunday, May 31.

Last year there were 72 seatbelt citations given in the area during Click it or Ticket, according to Presley.
