SEC announces three permanent opponents for men's basketball

The SEC announced Thursday, May 28, that Auburn will play three annual home-and-home basketball series in the future.

Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss were selected as permanent opponents for the Tigers.

In addition to the three permanent series, Auburn will have two home-and-home series each year that will rotate among the other league teams.

Auburn will face the remaining eight SEC teams once per year.

The announcement was made at the SEC spring meetings in Destin, Florida.

“I think it’s a really good group for us," said coach Bruce Pearl. "Strong rivals in all sports. I think it’s a group that our fans will enjoy seeing twice a year; competitive programs.”

In the past, Auburn has only had Alabama as a permanent opponent.

The Tigers have all-time records of 58-93 versus the Crimson Tide, 90-91 versus the Bulldogs and 73-56 versus the Rebels.

Last season, Auburn was 0-2 against Alabama, 1-1 against Georgia and 0-1 against Ole Miss.
