Football announces beginning of fall practice

The wait is almost over for Auburn football fans.

The Tigers will begin fall practice on Tuesday, August 4.

Players officially report to campus on Monday, August 3, before practice begins the next day. The first day of practice in full pads will be August 8.

Auburn will look to improve ahead of a season with enormous expectations, including being the media selection for SEC Champion at this year’s SEC Media Days.

One of the focuses of fall camp will be polishing the offense under new starting quarterback Jeremy Johnson.

Coach Gus Malzahn said he has full confidence in Johnson to maintain the offensive production by former quarterback Nick Marshall.

“I’m very excited about Jeremy,” Malzahn said on July 13 at Media Days. “I feel very good about where he’s at. His coaches and his teammates have a lot of confidence in him, and he’s earned that.”

For the defense, the key will be learning new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp’s system.

Malzahn said he expects the defense to improve under new leadership.

“(Muschamp) just has that presence around him that gives all the coaches confidence,” Malzahn said. “He gives his players confidence … We’re very blessed to combine his defense with an offense that we’ve been running. We think the future’s very bright.”

Auburn opens the season against Louisville in the Georgia Dome on Sept. 5.
