The defense dominated Auburn's first fall scrimmage Monday, Aug. 10, but one player in particular stood out to coach Gus Malzahn and his teammates.

Defensive end Carl Lawson missed the entire 2014 season while recovering from a knee injury, but the former five-star recruit has returned to form after surgery.

"Carl Lawson, he's about unblockable," Malzahn said. "He's a disrupter. A lot of times if he's not making the play he disrupts stuff for other people."

Quarterback Jeremy Johnson said the offense has noticed Lawson's performance all of fall camp.

"He's just a tremendous pass rusher," Johnson said. "He's looking more explosive, faster. He's probably one of the best defensive ends in the country."

Cornerback Jonathan Jones said Lawson's impact was felt by the entire defense.

"Carl was great [in the scrimmage]," Jones said. "The whole [defensive line], honestly. That's going to help us this year."

Defensive end DaVonte Lambert said having Lawson back in 2015 will be good for the entire defensive line.

"He's energetic, strong, powerful, he brings a lot of energy to the defense," Lambert said. "It feels good knowing that you have a really good player on the other side of you."

Auburn's next scrimmage will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15.
