The College of Liberal Arts and Humanities continued their art month celebration by hosting Art in the Park Saturday, Oct. 10 from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Donald E. Davis Arboretum Pavilion.
Art in the Park was free and open to the public, and it attracted many families as well as students.
While local artists exhibited their work, many activities were set up including face painting and a water-coloring tutorial.
Sam Dichiara, sophomore in psychology, exhibited his photography of wildlife and animals from the Montgomery Zoo.
Dichiara said he tries to be as open-minded about photography as possible, and he tries to make photography fun.
He also said he enjoys being able to exhibit his photography at events like Art in the Park.
“There’s never anything wrong with getting a lot of awesome, positive affirmation,” Dichiara said.
Cody Franklin, freshman in environmental design, said that Anna Shipman, freshman in fine arts, invited him to Art in the Park to view her work.
Franklin said that he enjoyed the event's environment.
“I really like that the event is outdoors,” Franklin said.
Ian Shannon, freshman in business, said he enjoys the variety of art.
“There’s a lot of different mediums represented here; there’s some acrylic, color pencil and paint,” Shannon said.
Alyssa D. Ross, doctoral candidate in the English Department and fellow for the Office of Community and Civic Engagement, helped organize Art in the Park.
Ross said CLA wanted an event more for novice artists, artists at Auburn that wanted to get a start as well as artists that wanted exposure.
“We’re trying to foster communication between the community and the University, which is always a good thing,” Ross said.
