College Town Throwdown brings country music to Auburn

It’s hard to say what there was more of at the College Town Throwdown when it made its stop in Auburn on Oct. 30: music or cowboy hats.

The day of country music kicked off at 3:30 p.m with the last act, country singer Easton Corbin, not making an appearance until 9:45 p.m.

A number of other artists made appearances as well, including DJ KO, Haley Georgia, Buddy Brown, Ira Dean, John King, Brothers Osborne and Jon Pardi.

For those needing fuel between sets, food stands, which sold items such as funnel cakes, barbecue, pizza and fried Oreos, lined the perimeter of the venue.

Mary Casteel, concert attendee, said she was most excited to see Brothers Osborne and Easton Corbin.

“We didn’t get here until 7 … to see Brother Osborne and Easton Corbin … I like both very much," Casteel said. "That’s the two I came to see.”

Fall was in the air at Ingram Farms, an outdoor venue, and the crowd felt it.

Shannon Wilkerson, junior in animal sciences, who was there with her friend Ivey Wise, junior in animal sciences, said dancing was not only the most fun part of the night, but also helped combat the chill.

“It was cold, but now we’ve been dancing,” Wilkerson said.

Casteel, who was sitting in a lawn chair bundled up in a blanket and an Auburn sweatshirt, agreed the weather was great, but cold.

Across the board, though, whether there for work or for play, people were enjoying themselves.

Heather Harvey, owner of Dixon Apparel, a traveling clothing shop on tour with the event, said although she has only been in Auburn a short amount of time, she has enjoyed it.

“We love it so far," Harvey said. "Lots of beautiful countryside and really nice people.”

Casteel said the night was a success.

“Yes, yes, yes, yes. We definitely have had fun,” Casteel said.
