Meet the Student Design League's fan apparel contest winner

Alaundra Shealey, winner of the Student Design League's #AUshirt competition and senior in apparel design, is from the Auburn and area and said she wanted to incorporate the Toomer's Oaks in her design.

Shealey's design received 3,500 votes.

She received a summer internship with Robin Ruth in New York and is now a finalist for a $10,000 prize, which is based on who gets the most shirt sales, said Shealey.

When Shealey was announced as the winner, she said she felt more than her facial expression showed. She said she was happy to the point of tears.

“I was excited, it didn’t look like I was excited, but I was actually tearing up when he announced it,” said Shealey.

According to Shealey, this competition is opening doors for her and taking her places she didn’t think of going.

“One, it helps reduce my looking for an internship and I think it opens doors that I wouldn’t have known to go for," Shealey said. "So, I originally thought I wanted to intern in New York and then I was like um not really, so now I think it just kind of solidified what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go."

The design will be sold on SDLproject.com.
