Auburn softball's Cooper, Carosone on watch list for National Player of the Year

Two Auburn softball players are on a watch list for the 2016 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award, ASA/USA Softball announced this week.

Third baseman Kasey Cooper made the list for the second consecutive season, and second baseman Emily Carosone joined her teammate after both turned in All-American campaigns in 2015.

Cooper, a rising junior who was just named to the US national team, batted .391 with 18 home runs and 64 RBIs last spring.

She was bested in most categories only by Carosone, who turned in a career year in her junior season. She led the team in batting average (.438), was tied for second-most in home runs (18) and set Auburn single-season records with 88 runs scored and 80 RBIs.

The SEC led all conferences with 14 players, representing eight different schools, on the 50-person list. Georgia, LSU and Michigan each placed three players on the list.

You can see the full watch list on the USA Softball website.

Auburn will begin its season at home on Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. against Appalachian State.
