Track and field notches seven podium finishes at Husker Invitational

Auburn captured an individual win and several podium finishes at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska, this weekend.

Sophomore Jonielle Smith won the 60-meter dash in 7.36 seconds, while freshman teammate Jenae Ambrose placed third in the event with a time of 7.47.

For the men's team, sophomore Coleman Churitch won his section of the 3,000-meter run, and freshman Joshua Burks took his section of the 200-meter dash.

Churitch set a personal record with an 8:22.86, and Burks ran a 21.85 to claim victory.

“We showed a lot of the things I look for this time of year today like fight and determination,” Auburn coach Ralph Spry said. “We definitely got a lot sharper, which is the name of the game as we head into postseason.”

Senior Samantha Scarlett finished second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.29 seconds, and junior Teray Smith took the silver in the 200-meter dash in 21.14. Both times were season-bests for the athletes.

Seniors Rachel Dincoff and Valentina Muzaric finished third and fourth in the shot put, respectively. The two throws were separated by only an inch.

The Tigers will split up next week and compete in the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Valentine’s Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts and the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
