Despite a strong round from sophomore Ben Schlottman, Auburn finished near the bottom of the pack on the first day of the Schenkel Invitational.
Auburn placed 12th out of 14 teams, including three ranked opponents, with a 4-under 284 in the first round at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia.
No. 10 Wake Forest led after the first round after firing an 18-under 270.
Senior Michael Johnson carded a team-low 4-under 68 and finished the round in eighth place. After Johnson, there was a large drop-off.
Freshman Jacob Solomon, making the first start of his career on the A-team, tied for 36th at 1-under. Senior Jake Mondy shot even-par to tie for 46th, while junior Will Long tied for 53rd at 1-over.
Schlottman, playing as an individual for the first time this season, carded a 6-under 66 and is tied for second place behind Wake Forest’s Davis Womble.
Auburn will continue play at the Schenkel Invitational on Saturday at 8 a.m.
