Men's tennis starts final homestand off with victory

The No. 63 Auburn men's tennis team notched another SEC win by defeating Tennessee Friday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center, posting a 6-1 win over the Volunteers.

"I thought we came out ready to play, starting with doubles," said Auburn coach Eric Shore. "We continued that in singles. We needed a night where we put it all together and we did. Now we need to get ready for a big Sunday against Kentucky.”

Auburn grabbed the doubles point first by switching up duos. Max Hinnisdaels and Brandon Laubser kicked the event off with a 6-4 victory over Jack Heslin and Igor Smelyanski. Marko Krickovic and Edward Nguyen, paired together for the first time since early March, defeated  Jack Schipanski and Luis Valero 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for Auburn.

In all six singles matches, the Tigers won on the first set. Dante Saleh was the first to finish, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Schipanski. Olle Thestrup defeated Sunay Bhat 6-3, 6-3, and Hinnisdaels clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Timo Stodder..

Laubser and Krickovic claimed singles wins after the team victory was clinched.

Auburn will face Kentucky at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on Sunday for Senior Day, with the first match set to start at 1 p.m.
