Auburn golfer named Ben Hogan Award semifinalist

Michael Johnson of the sixth-ranked Auburn men's golf team was named one of the 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award on Thursday by the Colonial Country Club, Friends of Golf and Golf Coaches Association of America.

A senior from Birmingham, Johnson is the third-ranked golfer in the country according to the Palmer Cup rankings. This season he has won three tournaments, a school record, and his 69.69 stroke average is currently the lowest in school history and second-lowest in the nation.

Johnson's three tournament victories came at the Primland Collegiate, Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate and the Schenkel Invitational. With five career tournament victories, Johnson ranks second in school history behind only Jimmy Green's six career victories.

Three finalists for the award will be named on May 3, and the winner will be announced May 23 at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Johnson and the Auburn men's golf team will play in the SEC Championship Friday, April 15, in Sea Island, Georgia.
