Men describe spring fashion as cool and comfortable

As the temperature rises, the days get longer, and the clothes get shorter. For men, it is all about being cool and comfortable this spring and summer.

Vans, Costa sunglasses, American Fishing Tackle Company fishing shorts and short sleeve polos are a few things you will find men sporting around campus this season.

"It gets scorching hot in the South, so during the spring and summer, I like to wear clothes that are a little more airy, and clothes that I know are going to keep me cool," said Jamie Stark, senior in building science.

Stark said he likes to wear shorts and tennis shoes during the spring and summer.

"In the spring, I like to wear shorts and a T-shirt because of the warm weather," Stark said. "It is nice to finally put away all of the heavy winter clothing."

Miles Hartley, sophomore in business, described spring and summer fashion for men as "recklessly chic."

"Bold colors, funky patterns and a wardrobe that makes people question whether you meant to wear that or you have a bad sense of fashion is what spring clothes are all about," Hartley said.

Thomas Griffin, senior in supply chain management, said he keeps his spring wardrobe simple.

“I usually just wear AFTCO [American Fishing Tackle Company] or PFG [Performance Fishing Gear] shorts with a T-shirt or short polo," Griffin said. "Then I’ll wear Cole Haan loafers or Nike Free 5.0 tennis shoes. I normally don’t wear flip flops until later in the spring and summer.”

Johnathan Burson, senior in special education, agreed.

"I like to wear AFTCO shorts with a simple golf polo of any kind in the spring," Burson said.

Despite the neutral palette and darker colors seen in the fall and winter, spring and summer offer more colorful options.

William Snow, senior in accounting, said he likes to wear more colorful shirts in the spring and summer months.

"My favorite colors to wear in the spring are white and blue," Snow said. "I like my spring clothes to keep me cool because I am outdoors a lot more."

Spring and summer in the South tend to be abnormally sunny, so sunglasses are a must-have for men.

"I pull out my Costas whenever I can in the spring and the summer," Burson said.
