Auburn Police Division was contacted by a third party about a fondling incident that reportedly occurred in the Sciences Center Classroom Building close to midnight, according to an announcement by Auburn University Public Safety and Security.
The incident reportedly involved a female student who was studying in a classroom alone, the announcement states. She was approached by a stranger who asked her for directions and then touched her buttocks and hips over her clothing. He left when she reached for her phone to call for help.
The suspect was described as an African American male, approximately six feet tall and average build in his mid-twenties to early thirties, with a short haircut and wearing a black T-shirt and dark jeans.

In light of this report and in an attempt to keep students and employees informed and safe, please remember:
• Anyone with knowledge of this or any other crime is strongly encouraged to immediately report it to Auburn Police (911 - emergency; 334-501-3100 - non-emergency). Remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as well.
• Touching someone in a sexual manner without their consent is a crime.
• It is a myth that it can't happen to you. Anyone can be a victim of sexual assault, regardless of age, race, class, religion, occupation, sexual orientation, gender or gender identity, educational background, or physical description. Sexual assault is never the victim's fault.
• Students and employees are encouraged to use the night security shuttle for door-to-door on-campus transportation between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., by calling 334-844-7400.
