Auburn junior third baseman Kasey Cooper and Team USA earned the silver medal at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Sunday. Cooper and Team USA went 5-1 in the tournament, including winning the opening five games before falling to Japan in the final game, 2-1.
Cooper reached base in the top of the seventh after being hit by a pitch and represented the go-ahead run, but Japan retired the next two batters to end the contest. Cooper started at third and recorded an out on the only chance she had in the field.
The ESPNW player of the year notched three hits, including two doubles, in the 13-team tournament. Cooper recorded six RBI and went at least one in four of the six games played.
Team USA will next take on the XV WBSC Women’s World Championship, July 15-24, in Surrey, B.C., Canada. Cooper and Team USA will open with Israel on July 15 and will face off against Austria and Brazil on the 16 and 17, respectively.
