Tigers drop second in a row at War Eagle Invitational

In the first game of two on Saturday, the Auburn volleyball team fell to Furman 3-1. The Tigers were able to avoid the sweep by winning the third set but couldn't carry the momentum into the final set.

Auburn was able to make the first two sets interesting losing 25-21 and 25-19 respectively before coming out and dominating the third set 25-20. The Tigers re-entered intermission on fire but weren't able to maintain their energy.

“I thought we were playing very cautious and [after intermission] it changed a little bit but not completely," Auburn head coach Rick Nold said. “I think this has been a little bit of a shell-shock for the team and I take that, as a coach, that we have to prepare better. We’ve talked all year that every team we play here has the ability to beat us they’re all good teams and if we don’t play the way we’re capable that will happen and that is what has happened.”

Today’s loss follows dropping the season-opener to Georgia Tech on Friday night by a score of 3-1 but the Tigers have an opportunity to put a tally in the win column tonight against the University of the Pacific.

“Every time we get out on that court we have to be confident in ourselves and know what we are capable of,” freshman standout Gwyn Jones said. “If we forget about these first two matches but take away from them that we need to have energy and compete we can very successful tonight and the rest of the season.”

Auburn now falls to 0-2 on the season with one more game remaining in this tournament tonight at 7:30pm against Pacific.
