According to a report by al.com, Auburn defensive back Stephen Roberts was arrested Wednesday night on charges of attempting to elude an officer and unlicensed possession of a firearm.
Roberts was reportedly arrested at 9:53 p.m. on Harmon Drive before being transported to the Lee County Detention Center. He was released on a $1,000 bond for each charge, both of which are Class A misdemeanors in Alabama and carry a fine of up to $6,000, along with a penalty of no more than a year in jail.
An Auburn spokesman told al.com that coach Gus Malzahn is “aware” of the situation and “will handle the situation appropriately.”
Roberts started the last four games of the 2015 season, was expected to be among the top contributors at safety this fall for the Tigers. He played in all 13 games last season, contributing 26 tackles and three passes defended.
Roberts becomes the fifth Auburn player arrested this offseason, along with Byron Cowart, Jeremiah Dinson, Carlton Davis and Ryan Davis, who were arrested in April on charges of marijuana possession.
