Erik Armes named SEC Men's Freshman of the Week

Auburn redshirt freshman Erik Armes received the first major honor of his career Tuesday as he was selected as the SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week, the league office announced.

“It’s great to see Erik get SEC Freshman of the Week after his performance on Saturday,” Auburn head coach Mark Carroll said. “It’s good to see him come back strong after redshirting all of last season. I look forward to seeing him progress as the season goes on.”

The Coronado, California native finished 20th at the Furman classic this past weekend, posting a time of 26:22.58 in the men’s 8k. The Auburn men scored 58 points to finish second behind Furman. Armes was named the San Diego Track Athlete of the Year in high school, and he will look to continue his success on The Plains.

The Tigers will return to action Saturday at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tennessee.
