SGA discusses Friday parking and grading system

This week’s SGA meeting included a future order of business regarding Friday parking, discussion on a plus/minus grading system and a report from the College of Business.

At-Large Senators Cooper Elkins and Reagan Drake proposed a bill regarding Friday parking.

The bill will recommend the University change its current policy in which students are required to move their vehicles from the Coliseum parking lot by 11 a.m. to make way for RV parking, which opens at 2 p.m.

Elkins and Cooper said they proposed this because students have a “reasonable expectation to park in the vicinity of their classes.”

SGA will vote on the bill the Monday after Thanksgiving Break.

During executive announcements, SGA President Jesse Westerhouse clarified the status of the proposed “plus/minus” grading system.

“I know the conversation has been had on the plus/minus grading system and the administration are kind of feeling that out, and the university senate is actually going to recommend not to change the grading system at all due to a survey,” Westerhouse said. “Eighty-six percent of students came back and said they want it to remain the exact same.”

Budget and Finance Committee Chair Chris Smillie gave a report on the College of Business.

“During the week of exams, Monday through Friday, all of the classrooms will be unlocked until 10 p.m., so they will stay open a couple hours later and give students the ability to stay in those rooms and study for a little bit longer,” Smillie said. “That being said, there will be exams in a lot of the classrooms throughout the day so if you’re studying and a professor comes in, then politely leave and find another room.”
