Scott Fountain relieved of his duties at Auburn

After eight seasons on the Plains, Auburn tight ends and special teams coach Scott Fountain has been relieved of his duties.

Fountain arrived at Auburn in 2009 to serve as Gene Chizik’s director of player personnel. He was promoted to his current tight ends and special teams coach prior to the 2013 season.

Under Fountain’s tutelage, former Auburn punter Steven Clark was a three-time finalist for the Ray Guy Award as the nation’s top punter. Daniel Carlson has been a finalist for the Lou Groza Award, awarded to the nation’s top placekicker, in two of his three seasons at Auburn.

Along with his work on the sidelines, Fountain was an instrumental part of Auburn’s recruiting efforts. He was the lead recruiter for many of the recruits that signed with Auburn on National Signing Day.

Fountain is the third offseason coaching change for the Tigers. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee left Auburn for the same job at UConn while secondary coach Wesley McGriff accepted the defensive coordinator job at Ole Miss.

Gus Malzahn has yet to make a comment about Fountain’s sudden dismissal or about who will replace him.
