Davis Daniel named SEC Freshman of the Week

Auburn right-hander Davis Daniel was named SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

The Montgomery, Alabama native earned his first career SEC win on Sunday at Georgia with six shutout innings. He struck out six and allowed just five base runners in his first career road start.

Daniel improved to 2-0 on the season and helped Auburn to its sixth-consecutive win to open the 2017 season. He has struck out 25 strikeouts in 26.1 innings while allowing just six walks. Daniel has a 4.44 ERA thus far in his freshman season.

Daniel is the second-straight Auburn freshman to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Will Holland received the honor last week following Auburn’s sweep of Florida.

The No. 17 Tigers are 20-6 this season. The 20 wins in 26 games is the fastest Auburn has reached the 20-win plateau since 2004. Auburn will take on archrival Alabama Tuesday night in the MAX Capital City Classic in Montgomery. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. CST, and action can be seen on ESPNU.
