Tiger bats remain hot in another run-rule win

The No. 2 Auburn softball team was brilliant again on Sunday, this time defeating the College of Charleston, 8-0 in five innings. The Tigers (19-2) drew nine walks and had five hits on the day.

“Our philosophy is that we attack our zone,” said head coach Clint Myers. “When we attack our zone, we get a lot of walks. It’s the ability to go out and make [opposing pitchers] come to the plate.”

Tiger pitchers Kaylee Carlson and Makayla Martin combined to allow just three hits in five shutout innings.

Third baseman Kasey Cooper led Auburn offensively, with a 2-for-3 showing and matched a season-high with four RBI.

After a scoreless first inning, the Tigers got on the board in the home half of the second. Abbott drew a leadoff walk, and eventually scored from third on a passed ball to make the score 1-0.

Following a Wallace walk to load the bases, Cooper lined a double off the wall in left-center to score two and extend Auburn’s lead to 3-0.

In the third, Veach opened with a double. Abbott then doubled bringing her in and extending the lead to 4-0. Auburn would then load the bases up by way of two more walks.

Sydne Waldrop scored on a passed ball, while Casey McCrackin and Podany crossed the plate on a single to center by Cooper to extend the Tiger lead even more. Fagan then drove in a run for the eighth run of the contest.

Martin entered the circle in the last two innings, and sealed the victory for the Tigers. The win marks Auburn's 11th shutout of the season.

“It’s moving in the right direction,” Cooper said.”Still not satisfied, I gave up too many at bats this weekend, but, definitely feeling better and more confident in the box.”

Auburn welcomes Alabama State Wednesday night, before entertaining LSU for a three-game series, March 10-12, at Jane B. Moore Field.
