LSU bounces Auburn from SEC Tournament

Auburn’s quest for its third-straight SEC Tournament title ended Saturday in Knoxville, Tennessee, as No. 6 seed LSU knocked off Auburn 6-0.

Auburn played a very sloppy brand of softball, as the Tigers committed five errors and left seven on base.

“We didn't play well. We didn’t play well enough to win,” Auburn head coach Clint Myers said. “There were some bright spots, but in order for us to be the team we want to be, we’ve got to play better defense and we’ve got to have a whole lot more offense. The pitching, I thought, was excellent. It’s the other two parts that we failed at today.”

The big blow came in the fifth inning, where LSU struck for five runs, but was benefitted by four errors by Auburn. Second baseman KK Crocker committed three errors in the game, two in the critical fifth inning.

“We have got to be a better offensive team to put some runs on the board because we are getting the pitching,” Myers said. “We gave up five unearned runs today, so that’s not characteristic of us. We have got to be playing Auburn softball.”

Kaylee Carlson took the loss for Auburn, falling to 26-4 on the year. She allowed six runs (one earned) on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work.

LSU was led by Sahvanna Jaquish, who finished 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Sydney Springfield had two RBI for the Bayou Bengals, while Allie Walljasper earned her 16th victory of the year.

Auburn will now await its NCAA Tournament destiny, which will be revealed at 9 p.m. CST Sunday night on ESPN2.

“It’s going to be a good Regional, and probably a great Super Regional,” Myers said. “They’re going to have eight phenomenal teams at the World Series, and we’re planning on being one of those.”
