Restaurant Week to be held downtown

Auburn’s Downtown Merchants Association will be hosting Restaurant Week, a weeklong event featuring local restaurants downtown the week of June 19.

“We are rolling this Restaurant Week out for [the restaurants because] we want to highlight them,” said Downtown Coordinator Jessica Kohn. “We want to give them a chance to put their restaurant in the spotlight.”

Kohn said Restaurant Week is happening to bring more Auburn residents who normally dine elsewhere to come and experience downtown.

Students and residents typically avoid eating downtown because of parking issues, Kohn said, so this event will encourage a new crowd to make their way downtown.

“We hope it will be a really good time of the year to get people who don’t normally come downtown to come and dine,” Kohn said. “That’s kind of why we selected June.”

The highlight of Restaurant Week, according to Kohn, will be the “pre-fixed menus” at all the restaurants involved. Restaurants will also feature dishes unique to the event.

Kohn said an example of a pre-fixed lunch menu would be $15 for two courses, and a pre-fixed dinner could be $30 and would be three courses.

“If you’ve ever eaten at Acre or Hamilton’s you know you’re not getting three courses for $30, so that’s a really good deal,” Kohn said.

There is not a definitive list of restaurants that will be involved in Restaurant Week yet, but Kohn said all restaurants in the downtown area will be able to participate free of charge.

Kohn also said that guest bloggers from around the area are being invited to write about their experience at each restaurant they visit.

The restaurants participating will have to provide one free meal for them to eat and blog about-- a tactic used to promote the event more via social media.
