Smoothie King on South College to reopen after fire

After a fire on Jan. 22, 2017, Smoothie King on South College Street closed its doors for renovations. Business kept on just outside in a small brightly colored trailer.

"The fire started in one room, but it spread throughout the entire building," said Layton Huskey, owner of Smoothie King. "It was a significant amount of damage but now we are finally able to get it back open."

Huskey said the officials were never able to come to a conclusion on what started the fire.

Smoothie King's opening day is July 10. On July 14, there will be a ribbon cutting and the Auburn Chamber of Commerce will be present.

While the trailer did well in sales, Huskey is glad to see the main doors opening again. Initially, the trailer was used for game day travel and other events, but after working with the city, they were able to open the trailer for full-time business.

Huskey said the store has been fully upgraded to the point of no resemblance from the previous look. The menu has been updated, as well. This Smoothie King location offers a drive-thru option.

The employees previously working inside the business are still working in the trailer, Huskey said. The hours have been extended from before the fire.

"We look forward to having everyone come back," Huskey said. "It's going to be better than ever."
