Southern Living surveyed 22,000 readers on which Southern towns deserved to be named the best.
Auburn was named number seven out of 10.
Southern Living wrote, "As any Auburn Tiger can tell you, this small town in rural Alabama is addictive, with tree-shaded streets and great old storefronts. Together with sister town Opelika, it gives students and locals interesting options for food and drink, not to mention live music."
The towns selected shared traits like "a thriving downtown with locally owned restaurants, shops and galleries; a touch of artsy; loads of character; friendly locals; and, of course, a beautiful location."
