Entering a key season in Bruce Pearl’s tenure on The Plains, Auburn has been searching for a leader on and off the court.
Sophomore Mustapha Heron could be his guy.
Heron was named Second Team All-SEC Friday morning prior to the opening of the 2017-18 college basketball season.
Heron led the Tigers in scoring a season ago with 15.2 points per game and rebounding with 6.1 per game. He reached double figures in scoring in 31 of 32 games for the Tigers a season ago.
The preseason All-SEC teams were voted on by the 14 SEC coaches. Heron was Auburn’s only player selected.
Auburn will host Norfolk State in the season opener Friday night at 7 p.m. inside Auburn Arena.
