Auburn chef David Bancroft of Acre wins Food Network's ‘Iron Chef Showdown’

The head chef and owner of Acre David Bancroft won Food Network’s “Iron Chef Showdown” Wednesday night, beating out Iron Chef Jose Garces.

Bancroft and his team won against Garces and his team with a final score of 42-40 in an hour-long competition featuring rib racks as the special ingredient.

On Bancroft’s team was Chef Adam Evans from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and Acre Chef de Cuisine Caleb Fischer.

Bancroft’s victory on “Iron Chef Showdown” comes after the chef was named as a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation’s best chef in the South earlier this year.

Garces, one of “Iron Chef Showdown’s” resident Iron Chefs, won against celebrity Chef Bobby Flay on “Iron Chef America” in 2008 and became the sixth Iron Chef in 2009. Garces was also named best chef in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the James Beard Foundation.

The competition between Bancroft and Garces will air on the Food Network again at 3 p.m. CST on Thursday and at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. CST next Wednesday.
