COLUMN: Where to find your dream sweater

Fall is sweater weather. When heading out for a night on the town or just going to class, you grab a sweater.

Everyone has their favorite sweater that makes you feel warm and cozy. The dream sweater is one that accomplishes this while also making you look great.

If you are anything like me I have a bucket of sweaters that I wait all summer to use, but fall is here and the days of dreaming of colder weather are over.

Sweaters are such a tricky thing to find since each person has different opinions on color, size, budget, feel and even brand.

After some investigation, we found most stores are stocking up on sweaters. Whether it is a cashmere cable knit sweater, or the just the softest cardigan your sweater could be found in the Auburn-Opelika area.

There are all different levels of price range from almost $200 to $20 whether you shop at Target or are on the hunt for some Free People.

Target and Old Navy have a good selection of basic sweaters currently. These are good places to get some basics for layering and even some nicer ones for date night.

Most of their sweaters are priced between $15 to $40.

There are also several stores at Auburn Mall that could be worth a visit. Belk, Francesca’s, Loft, The Mint Julip and American Eagle all have sweaters as well.

Shoppers can find anything from casual to professional sweaters. The price range is about $20 to $80 depending on the store and style of sweater.

The most convenient area for Auburn students is downtown Auburn, which is where some of us shop.

Each boutique has their own style and theme though they do cross over. With so many places to go downtown, it is almost overwhelming where to start.

Some of the newer stores, Charming Oaks and Dress Up, have made a positive impact on students as well as their budgets. With fun new styles in town, the likelihood of matching all of your classmates have dropped thankfully.

Therapy Boutique has been around several years and has a good selection of pullovers and sweaters.

McKenzie Shaffer from their Chief Operating Office spoke about their selection.

“We definitely carry the dream sweater for fall,” Shaffer said. “We have a wide variety of sweaters, but our go-to look is a comfy, loose-fitting, long sleeve, chunky knit, neutral sweater that can be dressed up or down.”

At Therapy the majority of their sweaters revolve around $50.

Another favorite for Auburn students is Behind the Glass.

Store Owner and Manager Donna Young started the business more than 25 years ago.

“We have sweaters in every shape, size and color but this year we think the Free People West Coast Pullover fits the description of dream sweater,” Young said. “It comes in three beautiful colors, is oversized, not too heavy or too thin, has dramatic sleeves, and is long in the back. Perfect for a comfy class look or for dressing up to go out.”

This sweater is priced around $120 currently though they have many other options in the store.

It is getting cold outside so find those sweaters and have fun while looking. Shopping for sweaters is part of fall no matter what your style is.
