On a bitter-sweet day for Auburn basketball, the recruiting trail was the silver lining.
Babatunde Akingbola, a four-star power forward out of Power Springs, Georgia, committed to Bruce Pearl's team Thursday afternoon. The 6-foot-8 post presence is Auburn's only committed player of any high school class.
"Hello World, first I would like to thank God, my parents, family, friends, coaches and those who recruited me," Akingbola wrote in a tweet. "But the time has come for me to make a decision and I choose to further my career and education with Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers. #WAREAGLE"
Per 247 Sports, Akingbola is the No. 25 power forward in the nation in the class of 2019. The Tigers fended off Georgia Tech, Memphis, N.C. State, Rutgers, Tulane and UCF.
Following the Chuck Person scandal, Auburn lost five-star forward E.J. Montgomery to a de-commitment. According to Dan McDonald of Rivals.com, Akingbola could possibly reclassify and move to the class of 2018 recruiting pool.
