App synced with AU Involve giving students mobile check-in capability

The Office of Student Involvement is encouraging students to download the Campus Labs Mobile Check-In app which is now designed to work in tandem with AU involve on AU Access. The app will allow students to gain access to events faster than before.

“The biggest, I guess, perk of having it is just for the student side that is attending the event,” said Cameron Eaves, student organizations advisor for the Office of Student Involvement. “Instead of them having to have their Tiger Card, you know, cause we’ve kind of moved everything to ‘you’ve got to have your card, you’ve got to have your card’ now it is ‘hey do your cellphone? Well pull that out’ and you can have your mobile pass and enter into an event in a matter of seconds.”

Eaves said tracking attendance has become increasingly more important for a lot of students.

The app was designed by Campus Labs who has made apps in the past and designed the software that runs the AU Involve website.

“[Campus Labs] basically just rolled out this new feature that allows all of the data that we have in AU Involve to kind of talk to this mobile app,” Eaves said.

Eaves said organization leaders can use the data collected by the app to study the demographics of event attendees.

“We wanted to give [organizations], especially some of these smaller organizations, an opportunity to track their attendance for free and with devices that they already have,” Eaves said.

The app is available for free on Google Play and the Apple App store. Students will need to have an event code to use the mobile pass.

“Campus Labs was very transparent with us that it is designed specifically for events but that’s not to say that student org leaders couldn’t use it for their weekly meetings,” Eaves said. “There are definitely ways that they can finagle it to work for their organization.”
