ELECTION RESULTS: Students choose new SGA officers

Dane Block and Patrick Starr will head into a runoff to determine who will be the next Auburn SGA president after a heavily populated field left no candidate with more than the required 40 percent of the vote

Dane Block and Patrick Starr will head into a runoff to determine who will be the next Auburn SGA president after a heavily populated field left no candidate with more than the required 40 percent of the vote.

SGA election law calls for a runoff if no candidate captures at least 40 percent of the total vote for that office.

Porter Kennedy, Bri Thomas and Mike O'Key finished behind the two leading candidates and have been eliminated from runoff.

Kathryn Kennedy, junior in biomedical sciences, has been selected as the next Miss Auburn. Miss Auburn results are not subject to the runoff requirement.

Students gathered Tuesday night for Callouts, an Auburn tradition in which candidates and supporters gather in the Upper Quad on the back steps of Cater Hall to hear the executive director of elections read the election results aloud.

Executive Director of Elections Catherine Milling read the names of the winners and the results of the student ticketing referendum to a large crowd gathered on the grass below the back terrace.

The candidates will campaign beginning Wednesday morning and voting will open at 7 a.m. on Thursday. The online ballots, available on AUAccess, will close at 7 p.m. Thursday. A winner is expected to be announced Thursday night after the polls close.
