College of Agriculture hosts Ag Week March 26–30

The College of Agriculture kicked off their Ag Week Monday with a luncheon and the Ag Olympics. The college will host events all week throughout Auburn's campus to promote the College of Agriculture

The luncheon was led by Alabama A&M’s Rudy Pacumbaba and focused on the importance of GMOs. Block and Bridle’s Ag Olympics took place at 6 p.m. at the Horse Unit on Monday. Teams of four will compete in 12 events to determine who are the Ag Olympians.

“There was probably at least 50 people there,” said Sen. David Beal. “And it was a luncheon, so we had free food as well.”

As for events later in the week, there is everything from a career fair to a petting zoo.

“We're partnered with UPC and Tiger dining,” Beal said. “Also, there's all the clubs for agriculture that are going to be out there. We're also going to have a band.”

The College of Agriculture has been hosting Ag Week for many years now and the event grows every year. This is the largest Ag Week they have hosted to date because of their partnership with UPC for Farmfest, among other large-scale events.

"With Ag advocacy, we really are advocates for agriculture and our local and corporate farmers ranging from small to large," Beal said. "And that's one thing that the country's kind of gotten away from; it's looking back to where our food comes from. So we want to educate just your average student where your food is coming from, who's doing it, what the industry looks like as a whole."
