Nathanial E. Gibson of Opelika was fatally shot Friday night, according to the Opelika Police Department.
At around 8:30 p.m., OPD received a call reporting a gunshot victim in the 100 block of Chester Avenue.
Police said first responders treated Gibson, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, at the scene before taking him to East Alabama Medical Center. He was later flown to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
At approximately 11:01 a.m. Saturday morning, Gibson succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead by medical officials. He was 37 years old.
OPD said its investigation is in the early stages and has asked anyone who may have information regarding the case call its investigative services division at 334-705-5220 or its secret witness hotline at 334-745-8665.
