Tannon Snow's walk-off home run lifts Auburn over Kentucky in extra innings

Kaylee Carlson pitched a career-high 12 innings and shut out the Wildcats

Kaylee Carlson's career performance on the mound ended with joy as Tannon Snow hit a walk-off home run to beat Kentucky, 1-0 in 12 innings as Auburn improves to 30-6 (4-4 SEC).

Carlson was terrific for the Tigers Saturday night as she pitched a complete game shutout over twelve innings of work. She allowed just six base runners for the entire game. Head coach Mickey Dean was impressed with her and the team's performance in the field.

"She was a monster," Dean said. "She wants the ball and she got it and did her job. She had great defense behind her. How many times do you see three balls hit to the fence and you hold the other team to a single? That's the difference."

Tannon Snow's late-inning heroics led the Tiger offense. Her walk-off home run cleared the left field wall with ease. The situation wasn't too much for Snow.

"You just have to slow yourself down," Snow said. "I slowed myself down and told myself it's just another at-bat. I've had a few walk-offs this season and it's nice."

Both teams struggled to find much offense throughout the majority of the game as both pitchers were hard to hit. The Tigers and Wildcats combined for 11 hits in 12 innings.

Auburn threatened in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn't push across any runs. Alyssa Rivera started off the sixth with a lead-off triple but the Tigers failed to score in the bottom of the sixth. Kendall Veach had a lead-off double in the seventh to get Auburn in scoring position but couldn't score the game-winning run.

The lack of run support didn't impact Carlson.

"You have to have three parts for a team," Carlson said. "Defense, pitching and hitting. We had to have great defense and that is what they are doing. They are picking up the slack."

Auburn will try to go for the series sweep Sunday as No. 11 Auburn hosts No. 19 Kentucky at 2 p.m. CT at Jane B. Moore Field.
