On Saturday, the Auburn Police Divison arrested Alex W. Mershon, 21, on warrants charging him with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree theft of property, according to a release from APD.
At around 1 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to a call reporting a person shining a flashlight in a residence in the 800 block of West Longleaf Drive. Police said officers apprehended Mershon at the residence as he was attempting to leave through a window.
Mershon allegedly broke into the residence and had taken items belonging to a resident before police arrived. According to police, officers recovered the resident's property from Mershon's possession after taking him into custody.
According to an Auburn University database, Mershon is a junior at the University.
