Seven starts into the season, Casey Mize has been named Midseason Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game/Rawlings, the group announced Wednesday afternoon.
With a 6-0 record and 2.11 ERA, Mize started this season maintaining his position as leader in strikeout-to-walk ratio, leading again with 70 strikeouts and just three walks. He currently has the nation’s best WHIP at 0.60 and is second in wins.
On March 9, Mize pitched a career-high 13 strikeouts en route to Auburn’s ninth no-hitter in program history. It was the first for Auburn since 2002.
Mize matched his career-high a week later against Texas A&M before striking out 12 at Kentucky. His cumulative 38 strikeouts were the most in a three-game stretch in the Stat Crew era.
Since the no-hitter, Mize is 3-0 with a 1.47 ERA. He added onto his strikeout total with 45 more without a walk, and has held batters to a .138 batting average.
As Auburn’s first pitcher to start a season 6-0 since John Madden in 2005, Mize joins No. 13 Auburn at No. 5 Arkansas this weekend. The three-game series starts Friday, April 6.
