Auburn 24-year-old charged with first-degree rape, sodomy

A 24-year-old from Auburn, Nicholas Wyatt Augustine, has been arrested on first-degree rape and sodomy charges.

Auburn Police said in a statement Monday that Augustine is believed to be the person responsible for forcibly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old female victim at a residence in the 300 block of Moore Avenue in Auburn on Saturday, May 5.

Police responded to a report of a sexual assault at about 4 a.m. before identifying Augustine, who was arrested the same day and later identified by the victim.

The two met through an acquaintance at an unidentified downtown bar in the 100 block of North College Street before Augustine invited her to his residence, where police said he later sexually assaulted her. Police said the victim fled the residence immediately following the assault and notified police.

Upon his arrest, Augustine was transported to the Lee County Jail, where he was assigned a $125,000 bond.
