There are few things you expect from a meat-and-three: fried, inexpensive and unpretentious. Local restaurant Veggies To Go hits the mark on all of these.
Diners can get a meat entree and a few vegetable sides for under $10, plus college students, military and seniors get a free drink with their respective IDs.
Veggies to Go’s menu includes Southern staples like country fried steak, fried catfish, fried okra and fried green tomatoes. If you have enough room after supper, they also offer a number of (un-fried) pies and cakes.
Unfortunately, Veggies to Go is not a late-night greasy spoon. It closes at 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday at the South College Street location.
With two locations in Auburn and one in Opelika, if you’re in the mood for a quick Southern meal and also down to watch Family Feud reruns while you’re waiting (seriously, it’s somehow always on), then check out Veggies to Go, The Plainsman’s 2018 Best Meat and Three, on South College Street or East Glenn Avenue in Auburn and Frederick Road in Opelika.
