Two men charged with burglary of Opelika Road business

On Wednesday, Auburn police arrested Jay Paul Kepner, 32, and Jeffery Jamel Reader, 27, on felony warrants for second-degree burglary and possession of burglar tools, according to a release from the Auburn Police Divison. 

At around 1:40 a.m., police responded to a call reporting a burglary in process at a business in the 1,000 block of Opelika Road. Officers arrived and discovered that someone had forcibly entered the building. 

Police said they found the two men hiding in the vicinity and detained them there. Officers found tools and supplies commonly used for burglaries on their possession and in their vehicle, they said. 

No property was removed from the Opelika Road business, according to police. 

Kepner, of Watertown, New York, and Reader, of New York City, were transported to the Lee County Detention Facility where they remain, each on an $8,000 bond.
