Two men arrested after high-speed chase, foot pursuit

Two men were arrested Friday afternoon after a brief high-speed chase ended with the men fleeing on foot toward a middle school, Auburn Police said Friday.

At about 2:30 p.m. an APD officer on patrol attempted to pull over a vehicle traveling on Shug Jordan Parkway near Donahue Drive. A pursuit ensued for several blocks.

The two men exited the vehicle and fled on foot on Bedell Avenue near Lunsford Drive. They continued through Westview Cemetery, police said.

One of the suspects was immediately taken into custody by the pursuing officer, and a firearm was located near the scene.

The second suspect continued fleeing from officers and headed toward Drake Middle School, where additional officers were located. A police administrator immediately notified Drake School staff. The school staff moved inside the school, and ACS officials initiated a lockdown, police said.

The second suspect was taken into custody on Spencer Avenue. The incident was resolved within two minutes of school officials being notified. At no point were the two suspects on school grounds, according to police.

The two men face charges related to drugs, firearms, fleeing and attempting to elude.
