Plan for your 4th of July with the city of Auburn

The 4th of July celebration is free for all community members to attend and open to all ages. Gates will open at 6 p.m., followed by live music at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m.

The City of Auburn will host its annual Independence Day Celebration Wednesday, July 4, behind the home side of Duck Samford Stadium.

The event will feature food, music and a fireworks display courtesy of Briggs and Stratton.

“Briggs and Stratton has been doing this since they’ve been here,” said Mayor Bill Ham at the June 5, City Council meeting. “They are a family- oriented company and a great corporate partner for the city of Auburn.

“It’s a big token for us but a small part of what Briggs and Stratton does,” Ham said.

This year’s musical guest will be Mojiles. The Gulf Coast based band features members from all over the world. They have songs from all genres. From Top 40 country hits and dance music to 70’s classics and 80’s Rock, there is sure to be music for the whole family.

A variety of food vendors and trucks will be present at the event such as Country’s BBQ, Drive-by Tacos, Dumps Like a Truck, Hot Dog Express, Kona Ice, Sani-Freeze and Scoops Real Italian Ice.

Aubie will make an appearance at 7 p.m. There will also be inflatables and face painting for children.

Briggs and Stratton donated $10,000 to the city of Auburn for the 4th of July celebrations at the June 5, City Council meeting.

“We appreciate the city for what they do for Briggs and Stratton,” said Sisco King, human resource management for Briggs and Stratton, at the June 5, City Council meeting. “It’s a two-way street. With the support from the City and the relationship we have, it made it a very easy decision for our corporate leaders to bring the business here.”

The parking lot off of Airport Road, between the Bo Cavin Fields and the new Duck Samford Fields, will be closed to the public during the event to accommodate the fireworks shoot site.

The parking lot off of East University Drive next to the old Duck Samford Fields will be available for public parking for the event.

Should it rain Wednesday night, the fireworks display will be held on Thursday, July 5, at 9 p.m at the same location.

There will also be some city closures for the holiday. Auburn City Hall, the Auburn Public Library and most city facilities will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

Public Safety services such as police, fire and communications will remain on their regular schedules July 4.

Garbage, trash and recycling collection will be delayed one day after the holiday. This means that Monday’s and Tuesday’s routes will be as they are normally scheduled.

Wednesday there will be no routes. Wednesday’s route will take place Thursday and Thursday’s route will take place Friday.

All public downtown parking will be free July 4.
